Why Powwows Matter

On August 23, 2025, I had the opportunity to attend my first powwow. It was a life changing experience that gave me a better understanding of the indigenous people in my community and the indigenous students I will teach. I wanted to get a sense of what the pow wow really meant to the Lennox Island Indigenous community so I asked two questions:

1. What does this pow wow mean to you?
2. Sometimes I don't understand the value of something until it is taken away? What would it mean if you didn't have this powwow every year?
