OVERALL OBSERVATIONS

Emily prepared an engaging lesson and the students were very receptive.

STRENGTHS

The strength of this lesson was its interactivity. Throughout the lesson, students spoke French aloud, imitated animal sounds, participated actively, answered questions, and interacted with each other.

AREA FOR IMPROVEMENT

While not always necessary, I would have liked to see a "hook." I wanted the lesson to begin with something other than "Today, we're going to talk about..."

ASPECTS OF THE LESSON THAT WERE WELL EXECUTED

PLANNING

Emily prepared an additional activity/worksheet in case a student finished the first activity earlier than expected. Indeed, one student finished early and she had an extra worksheet ready for him.

LESSON DELIVERY

She facilitated student learning of new vocabulary words by providing accompanying images as a guide.

To maintain constant monitoring of student understanding, she asked questions throughout the class to assess their comprehension at each step, so there was never any doubt about their understanding.

TEACHING STRATEGIES

Some teaching techniques used during the class included:

  1. Read-aloud accompanied by targeted questions
  2. Differentiated instruction
  3. Gamification and game-based learning – (Vocabulary game involving placing hands on the shoulders of the person in front)

CREATIVITY AND FLEXIBILITY

During the class, she had the opportunity to put differentiation into practice with Marya, a student who found the first activity a bit easy. She did this by offering another activity while the other student finished the first one.
