Educational Philosophy
For a long time, the role of the teacher was limited to teaching subjects like reading, writing, mathematics, history, and science. Today, a teacher's role is much broader and includes pedagogical, social, and community responsibilities.
In the education system, the teacher's first priority is to follow the ministry of Education guidelines for Prince Edward island and respect the ministry's best practices. A teacher does not just teach whatever she feels like teaching: the objectives are set by the official study program and must be integrated daily into lessons.
However, the teacher's role extends far beyond the classroom. In the community, she contributes to forming responsible citizens, capable of actively participating in society.
A teacher also plays a protective role, identifying at-risk situations that can have a real impact on a child's future.
These responsibilities must be taken seriously. It's not enough to love teaching: you must be ready to face complex issues. Some teachers give up on teaching because of these demands.
In my case, I never considered anything else. Even as a child, I loved helping others to learn, and teaching always came naturally to me.
Over time, I understood that this profession also allows me to have an impact on my students' dreams and futures. I got a glimpse of this while teaching English in Japan: a student I had helped prepare for a speech contest won first prize! Later, I supported another student in getting a bilingual job and encouraged another to pursue graduate studies. These experiences were extremely satisfying and became my motivation for teaching.
Today, I live in Montague, which may seem like a single-industry town. I want to encourage my students to think bigger and believe they can succeed in any field if they work hard.
Although many teachers leave the profession due to stress or lack of support, some institutions show that another model is possible. Proactive leadership, like that of the 2024 principal of the year in Belfast, creates environments where teachers feel respected and motivated.
My educational philosophy is grounded in the ability to take on big responsibilities, manage stress, and meet challenges without breaking down. This firm foundation equips me with the ability to support students socially, educationally and in positively impacting their communities.
